What Is IMEI Number?

A lot of us don’t really grasp the true sense of what an IMEI number is. Each one of you must’ve heard it at places like mobile and carrier stores. But still, you might’ve escaped the emphasis behind its being. Well luckily, in todays article we’re going to dissect the importance of this specific sort of number and how it can help you.

What Is IMEI?

When you first come across the term IMEI, it seems like a perplexing code of some sort. However, absorbing its concept is much easier. IMEI is basically the abbreviation of International Mobile Equipment Identity. To further suffice, it’s a distinct coded number that makes it simpler to identify a device on a mobile network. This number can save you from many great perils in case of a lost or stolen mobile.

Now it won’t make your phone come back towards you. But it will make sure that whoever stole it or found it after it got lost won’t be able to use your mobile. Your carrier will carry out the process of denying listing a device based on its IMEI number. They can also ask other carriers to carry out the same process.

To put it into perspective, this will mean that your phone won’t receive or make any calls further and would also not be able to connect to online services via the cellular network. Now may it be a new SIM card, the specific phone will not respond to any cellular activities.

How Do I Find My IMEI Number?

The procedure of locating your IMEI number is quite easy on an iPhone. Apple’s official support page explains finding your IMEI number in these words:

  1. Go to Settings > General and tap About.
  2. Look for the serial number. You might need to scroll down to find the IMEI/MEID and ICCID.
  3. To paste this information into Apple registration or support forms, touch and hold the number to copy.

On Android, the procedure is much simpler as well. All you have to do is type “*#06#” on your Android phone’s phone app and your phone’s IMEI number will pop up on the screen.
