Whale Tail is a Y-shaped visible thong that creates a ‘whale tail shape’ on the waist just above the waistband of low-rise jeans.

Back in time, the real icons from Paris Hilton to Britney Spears to Christina Aguilera. Everyone rocked the visible thong look.

In 2000, Britney Spears wore a gold two-piece set with beaded crystals and a G-String attached to the low-cut pants in a performance on the MTV music awards.

The Decline Of Whale Tail Fashion

However, the whale tail trend came to a decline in the mid-2000s. It was when big lingerie houses stopped the production of thongs that did not look like the whale tail shape.

Moreover, it girls were tired of seeing underwear strings hanging out of the pants of many celebrities at that time.

Louise Hunn, the editor of Instyle said “When a look goes too mainstream, people start wearing it badly”.

Also by that time high-rise jeans and trousers started to come into vogue.
