Tesla AI Day 2022

On the second “AI Day”, Tesla is all set to launch many “cool updates. They are even looking to launch the Optimus humanoid robot which was promised to be released in 2022 last year.

Tesla AI Day Highlights

In the last couple of years, Tesla has been scheduling annual events that focus on many specific points. The first annual event hosted by Tesla was in 2020 titled, Tesla Battery Day. In that event Tesla released its new 4680 battery cell. At the first “AI Day” last year, Tesla launched its Dojo computer. The company claimed it as the fastest and most efficient AI training machine in the world. On the same event, the tech giant also announced the launch of “Tesla Bot” (which was later changed to Optimus).

Optimus is a fully equipped humanoid robot which will carry out boring and annoying tasks for humans. Those tasks specifically that humans don’t want to do on the regular basis. Elon Musk also stated that it will come as a solver of the future labour shortage.

In May 2022, Elon Musk announced that the second “AI Day” will be situated on the 19th of August. However, that date has been pushed forward to September 30 now. Musk confirmed the delay through his Twitter handle as well. The reason for the delay was also explained by Musk. He briefed that Tesla will have a working prototype of the Optimus humanoid robot by late September. This highlights the possibility of the robot being released in the upcoming days.

Deadline Date Curse

Although it must be mentioned that Tesla just loves missing deadline dates. In last years “AI Day”, Musk announced that Tesla will have the bot ready by the end of 2022. If they somehow miss the upcoming deadline date, the backlash might be nerve wracking. Tesla has missed the deadline dates on a number of occasions in the past. The Cybertruck and Roadster were delayed multiple times in the past. The exact reasons are still unknown to this date.

How Much Will Optimus Cost?

Tesla continues to develop their humanoid robot yet Elon Musk believes that there will be a significant decrease in the cost. “I think the cost is actually not going to be crazy high, like less than a car.” Elon Musk stated when asked about the price at a convention. Expert analysis still contemplate the price tag somewhere around $25,000.

What AI Level Is Optimus?

The Tesla Bot now Optimus is estimated to be 173 centimetres in height and 57 kgs in weight. Thats an average size of an adult according to various studies. It will be programmed to perform certain tasks that a human wouldn’t be willing to do. For example, moving materials or components or picking up groceries. Elon Musk states that Optimus will have “the potential to be more significant than the vehicle business over time,”. Although the AI level of the bot is yet to be confirmed by Tesla.
