Metaverse Fashion Week

The images of Fashion Week will most likely produce leek runway photos, celebrity-ridden front rows, and barricades: across New York, Milan, Paris, and London. The events are only for the press, buyers, and people who have social media communities surpassing the million mark.

But now here comes the metaverse. Life is now different and where Fashion Week is more of a free-for-all space.

It was only a matter of time before the metaverse started functioning as a center stage for the moments that make industries. The Fashion Industry is one of the main adopters in this space. Opportunities for digital marketing were scooped up by the biggest designer brands.

This overlap between digital realms and fashion has been taken further by Decentraland, a browser-based 3D virtual world. It is in the midst of hosting a huge multi-fashion event. For three days from March 24 to 27, Decentraland is hosting Metaverse Fashion Week. Brands, artists, and designers will be participating. AI and robots, luxury wearables, and immersive runway experiences are also featured.

It presents to us that it appears to be an aspiring endeavor, but the company secured the show of luxury designers, huge fashion houses, and high-street stores to take part. The list itself is huge. Think: Estée Lauder, Philipp Plein, DKNY, Karl Lagerfeld, Dolce & Gabbana, Selfridges, Forever 21, Perry Ellis America, etc..

The show and events will actually take place in community-run neighborhoods within Decentraland. Selfridges and Forever 21 have also purchased real estate in the metaverse. In order to make purchases, you will need an Ethereum wallet. Or you could just attend as a guest.

What is MVFW? What is it actually like?

“Decentraland is a virtual social world for everyone, anywhere,” says Sam Hamilton,  creative director of Decentraland Foundations. “A space built by and run for by its community. Through MVFW22, we endeavor to broaden the horizon of what the ‘metaverse’ means. We just leveled up the playing field for the world of fashion and decreased the limitations.”

According to Jusi Crypto, a YouTuber detailing his experience at MVFW, admits there are not that many people that attend. “There’s not a lot of people, surprisingly enough,” he said. The atmosphere was considered changed once he entered a concert held by “Meta performer” Serena Elis.

Twitter users say that they actually enjoyed the show. Many talked about the performances, while others shared their outfits.

WWD is keeping track of the event with people attending and detailing each show and performance. Above all, the Dolce & Gabbana show was said to be similar to “IRL runway events.” The show itself was visually impressive. It had large strobe lights and models strutting out of large lotus-like concoctions.

Events were run from March 25th-27th.
