Disney’s Animated Short Film Reflect Features The First Plus-Size Lead Character.

A dramatic short film about body dysmorphic features the first plus-size lead character ever developed by Disney, much to the pleasure of viewers. A teenage plus-size ballet dancer named Bianca is the subject of the experimental short film Reflect, which is a part of the second series of Short Circuit.

For years, Disney fans have begged the studio to create plus-size princesses. This was demonstrated in 2015 by a social media post with plus-sized Disney characters that became quite popular.

What Is The Short Film “Reflect”  About?

The six-minute short film Reflect, which told Bianca’s tale, was made available on Disney+ on September 14. In an empty dance studio, the ballerina dancer can be seen practicing her steps with assurance in front of the mirror. Bianca, the sole plus-size dancer in the room, starts to feel awkward as soon as the class begins and other students enter.

Body dysmorphia, which is described as “a mental health problem when a person spends a lot of time worrying about defects in their looks, which often unnoticed by others,” affects the protagonist, who suffers from poor self-esteem.

By the movie’s ending, Bianca has found her inner strength and has conquered her insecurities. Along with the other pupils in her ballet class, she continues to practice. The word “Reflect” refers to the protagonist’s initial self-doubt when she first sees herself in the mirror, but later acceptance of her appearance and emotions.

Disney Is Playing Its Part In Making The World Accepting Through Their Film Characters:

Disney is developing characters that are more inclusive and diverse. However, Disney is addressing its historical racism and misogyny by developing more diverse characters in movies like Reflect. The business made a commitment to increase its inclusiveness and consultation practices two years prior, declaring its desire to “actively, purposefully, and aggressively champion the spectrum of voices and opinions in our world.”

What Is The Director Of the Short Film “Reflect” Point of View?

Hillary Bradfield, who previously worked on Frozen 2 and Encanto, which featured the first Disney princess to wear spectacles, is the director of the new short film. When asked why she decided to make this movie, the filmmaker responded, “I feel like I’m a pretty body-positive person in principle. Being body positive is much tougher when it’s personal, though.

“I hope that after watching the film, viewers will have a more positive self-image and accept the challenging portions of their path. Perhaps there are moments when you must travel through the dark to reach the light, and in doing so, the beauty of the light is enhanced,” she remarked.

Disney is being praised for its efforts. It also makes Disney apple watch bands for everyone. The addition of the plus-size heroine has been well-received by fans all over the world. Several viewers of the Reflect cartoon got emotional watching and have made appreciation social media posts.
