Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are currently in a legal battle, but their relationship was not always bad.
We’ll go over the entire timeline of their relationship. From meeting in Hollywood to getting married, divorced, then later battling it out in court.
The couple met on the set of Bruce Robinson’s film “The Rum Diary” in 2009. Depp portrayed Paul Kemp, a journalist who takes a job in Puerto Rico. Who falls head over heels in love with Chenault (Heard).
While the two didn’t marry for several years, Depp recently testified in his defamation suit against Heard that he felt “something I shouldn’t be feeling” on set.
“I think there was something in the kiss in the shower that was real,” Depp said of a scene in which their characters kissed in the shower.
Heard agreed while testifying. “I felt chemistry. I definitely felt something else that went beyond my job. Johnny clearly had feelings for me.”
Perfect timing
Depp and Heard then divorced their partners, Vanessa Paradis and Tasya van Ree, in 2012.
This allowed the pair to rekindle their on-set chemistry, with Depp believing Heard was “too good to be true.”
“She was attentive, she was loving, she was smart, she was kind, she was funny, she was understanding … we had many things in common, certain blues music, music, literature, for that year, year and a half, it was amazing,” he testified in court last month about the early days of their relationship
“She seemed to be the perfect partner in a sense, in my head.”
The Wedding
After dating for two years, the couple got engaged in 2014 and married on Depp’s private island in 2015.
Their marriage may have been doomed from the start. Depp allegedly told his best man, “Now I can punch her.” While they walked from the ceremony to the reception on his wedding day.
The relationship was “at times volatile,” according to both parties. Including one infamous night in 2016 when Heard allegedly hit the actor with a “haymaker” punch the same night she allegedly pooped in his bed.
Heard also accused the “Sweeney Todd” actor of abuse on numerous occasions, including hitting her with a bottle, forcing her to have oral sex with him, and subjecting her to “cavity searches” during their marriage.
Splitting up
In 2018, the “Aquaman” star wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post about women who have experienced domestic violence.
While she didn’t specifically mention Depp in the article, many assumed she was referring to the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star.
Ongoing lawsuits
Johnny Depp filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against his ex in 2019 in response to her claims in the Washington Post op-ed. He claims that the piece harmed his career and cost him more than $40 million in earnings.
After her motions to dismiss were denied, she filed her own $100 million countersuit in 2020, calling Depp’s suit “frivolous.”
Amber Heard Becomes a mom
Despite their ongoing legal issues, Heard revealed on social media in July 2021 that she had secretly given birth to a baby girl, Oonagh Paige, via surrogate. She insisted at the time that she is the child’s “mother and father.”
“I’m overjoyed to be able to share this news with you. I decided to have a child four years ago. “I wanted to do it my way,” she explained. “Now I recognize how radical it is for us as women to consider one of the most fundamental aspects of our destinies in this manner.”
“I hope we get to the point where it’s normal to not want a ring in order to have a crib,” she added.
Trial Begins
Depp’s $50 million lawsuit against Heard was finally heard in court last month and is still ongoing. Depp has been exploring everything from childhood abuse to drug addiction and his volatile relationship with Heard in the televised court case.
Meanwhile, Heard has remained steadfast in her claims that Depp abused her. Also accused him of threatening to kill her while the two were in the Bahamas in July 2013.
“He slams me up by my neck and holds me there for a second and tells me that he could f—ing kill me and that I was an embarrassment,” she testified.

Verdict
Johnny Depp won his defamation lawsuit against Heard. However, he only received $15 million in damages, rather than the $50 million he sought.
Despite being found guilty of defaming her ex, Heard was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages.
